Meet Your Therapist, Jessica Carr

Hello, and welcome. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas and Utah, and a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Iowa. I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Texas, and I bring years of experience helping people navigate trauma, mood disorders, ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence. I am also deeply committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and creating a space where all identities feel seen and affirmed.
A bit about my approach to therapy
My approach to therapy is collaborative, warm, and tailored to each client’s needs. I use a mix of evidence-based methods in ways that feel approachable and practical. With cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), we work on understanding how thoughts influence feelings and actions, and practice new ways of thinking that can lighten your emotional load. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) adds skills for managing big emotions, improving relationships, and staying grounded in the present. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) helps you notice and accept tough thoughts and feelings while moving toward what truly matters to you.

JCT
With internal family systems (IFS), we gently explore different parts of yourself to build more compassion and balance. For trauma work, I also use EMDR, a structured technique that helps reprocess painful memories so they lose their intensity. At the heart of it all, I bring a relational and person-centered style—meaning I value genuine connection, humor, and validation, and I believe that healing happens in safe, authentic relationships.
What you can expect from our first session
Clients who work with me can expect to feel validated, supported, and truly understood. Together, we’ll uncover patterns that may be holding you back and replace them with healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. You’ll gain practical tools for managing stress, navigating strong emotions, and staying grounded during difficult moments. Our work often leads to a greater sense of self-compassion, resilience, and confidence, as well as more fulfilling connections with the people in your life. My goal is that each session leaves you with both insight and actionable strategies, so you walk away not only feeling heard but also equipped to move forward.

Self-pay gives clients more control over visit frequency and ensures no treatment information is shared with third-party insurers.

Why self pay?
Discover the Advantages of Self-Pay
One benefit of self-pay is that counselors do not have to share client diagnoses with insurance for billing purposes. Clients will always be informed of any diagnoses, but by using self-pay, clients can be assured that no treatment information is shared with a third-party insurer.
Another benefit of self-pay is control over your visit frequency. Insurance companies sometimes set limits on the number of visits they will cover and the amount of time you are allowed with a counselor in each session. Self-pay gives you more control over your treatment.
Obviously, the self-pay route is not always the best choice for seeking treatment. Oftentimes, financially it may make more sense to utilize your health insurance plan.
If I am out of network with your insurance carrier I can generate a superbill for you to submit for reimbursement of session costs.

A superbill for insurance is an invoice or statement that is specifically designed for out-of-network clients who are seeking insurance reimbursement for mental health services, such as therapy sessions.
Essentially, the superbill for therapy is an itemized list of all services provided to a client, showing the charges and payments for those services.
Insurance companies have the discretion to determine how much, if anything, they will reimburse based on the specifics of your plan.
